Riding for a Cause

The only thing better than cycling through the world-famous Texas Hill Country is doing it all for a good cause. Tour de Boerne is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization born from a mission to create a ride as positively impactful as it is beautiful.

Each year, riders are welcomed to our cozy pocket of Texas pasture, peaks and valleys to help give back to those in the Boerne community who are in need. Our 62-mile, 39-mile and 25-mile courses sprawl through Boerne and neighboring towns of Waring, Welfare, Luckenbach, Sisterdale and Comfort.

The courses may be challenging, but we host an after-party worth riding for. Cyclists are welcomed back to Don Strange Ranch for a BBQ meal, cold beer and great conversation.

Richard Meneses retired from USAA Insurance Company with 30 years of service. During his tenure, he held various positions as a property and casualty insurance agent and several staff positions. He learned the value of giving back to the community through USAA's Community Volunteer program and spent many years as a Junior Achievement Volunteer at several San Antonio public schools. He also provided volunteer involvement with the Northside ISD School Board bond projects and community political campaigns.

Moving to Fair Oaks Ranch, TX in 2000 provided Richard with other volunteer opportunities. He and his wife, Patsy, became members of St Peter's Catholic Church, Boerne TX. Over the years, Richard has volunteered with the Church Music Ministry as a drummer, as a team lead for the Men's A.C.T.S. Retreat program, and as Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus Council 10940.

While at a Men's A.C.T.S Retreat in 2018, Richard and his fellow retreatant, Mark Rohde, discussed the idea of bringing a cycling event to Boerne TX as a means to showcase the beauty of the nearby Texas Hill Country and generate funding for the area non-profit organizations. With the assistance of many talented volunteers, Richard helped to create and establish Tour de Boerne L.L.C. into a viable non-profit organization, helping others in the nearby Boerne and Texas Hill Country Community.
